Dear Baby C,

Today marks my 16th week of pregnancy!  I am so excited to find out if you are a boy or a girl.  Hopefully, we will find out soon!  I have started making cloth diapers for you to wear.  This will save us money and therefore, I will have to work less and I can spend more time with you at home!

You are approximately the size of an avocado.  We go to the doctor to check on you in 5 days, we will hopefully schedule an ultrasound at that time to reveal your gender!  Can’t wait to see if you are a little prince or princess!

Dear Baby C,

Today I think that I felt you move for the first time.  Although it is hard to tell because you are still so small, I have been paying attention to every movement inside my body and I am pretty sure this movement was YOU!  It is so amazing to think that you are inside of me right now kicking, punching, flipping, and probably sucking your thumb at this point.  Hopefully, we will get to see you during an ultrasound in just a few short weeks!

Dear Baby C,

Today we arrived in Rough River, Kentucky for the annual Adcox family reunion.  Great-Grandpa Adcox brought us a gift from him and Great-Grandma Adcox.  It was a multi-colored blanket that Great-Grandma made for you along with a multi-colored stuffed bunny.  We called Great-Grandma Adcox to says thanks (because she couldn’t come to the reunion) and she told us that she had been saving that blanket for someone special (YOU)!

Everyone is so excited to meet you!  Once you are born, we are going to take a trip to Williston, South Carolina (where Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa Adcox live) so that they can both meet you.

Dear Baby C,

Today we had a doctor’s appointment with Dr. Reid.  He did an exam of my body and listened to your heartbeat.  It was 160 bpm.  We even heard you kicking while we were listening to your heartbeat.  It is so neat every time we hear it.  I would love to record your heartbeat and go to Build-A-Bear to make you a bear and record your heartbeat to put inside the bear.  Maybe Daddy & I can do this once we find our your gender!

Dear Baby C,

Aunt Tyler has started calling you Baby C because whether you are a boy or a girl, your name will start with C.

Today marks my 12th week of pregnancy.  Next week will mark the end of my 1st trimester.  It is crazy how fast the time is going and how fast you are growing.  The Allen family spent the day at Universal Studios.  We had a good time, even though I wasn’t able to ride many rides.  The important thing is that I am growing a miracle inside of me, and I could care less whether or not I get to ride a couple rides!

Dear Miracle,

Today, the Allen family took a trip to Disney World – Magic Kingdom! It was a great day despite the children fighting every once in a while! We were at the park for 14 hours and stayed late enough to see the castle show and fireworks! It was the perfect ending to the day EXCEPT then we had to make the trek from the middle of the park to the entrance, THEN wait in line for the monorail out of the park, THEN wait it line to ride the tram to the Simba parking lot where our car was. Ugh! Needless to say, this pregnant lady is very sore and very tired! Had a great time though!

Dear Sweet Child,

Today we had another ultrasound to check on you (9w, 6d)!  Grandma Allen went with us to the ultrasound.  She cried the WHOLE time!  You are growing a little bit ahead of schedule (measuring 10w, 3d).  Your heartbeat was 165 bpm and you were punching and doing flips.

Again, we got a lot of pictures and information about how you will grow within the next couple of weeks.  It is so exciting to see you moving!

Dear Tiny Peanut,

Today we got a call and found out that Daddy got an English teaching position at Vincennes Lincoln High School!  I am so proud of him!  This is the school where Daddy’s friend, Seth Skelton, works!  He is so excited to be able to provide for you and buy you everything that you need!

Dear Baby,

Today is Mother’s Day!

Today is a day that I am celebrating in a different way for the first time in my life! I have always loved and appreciated my mom but this year, I understand so much more of the love that this woman has for me. Weeks ago, I heard the most beautiful sound in the WHOLE world and I cannot explain the wave of love & emotion that I feel for this life growing inside of me.

Daddy wrote me this beautiful letter:

"This is your first Mother's Day, amazing to think you will celebrate this holiday for the rest of your life. I thought flowers or jewelry would be nice, but this year I will write for a heartbeat, a heartbeat you created. Truly a MIRACLE God allows you to create a heart that will love you forever. The heartbeat we heard only weeks ago will change our lives forever.  You will jump with joy when it takes its first steps, you will cry when it writes your name for the first time, and when the heartbeat finds their love and starts a family you will reminisce about the days when it was just a heartbeat.  So, on this Mother’s Day I will tell you for our unborn child that its heart beats with all the love now and forever for you.”

Wow!!!!!  Makes me cry every time I read it!  I love you, Dakota Adcox!  Thank you so much for this beautiful note AND making me a mommy!  I can’t wait to experience this with you!

Grandma Allen got me a maternity outfit.  Mimi got me two outfits, one for a boy and one for a girl.

Dear Tiny Miracle,

Today I attended the Deaconess Baby Palooza with Casey Howard.  We had a great time and I got a lot of samples of baby stuff.  I signed up for a lot of free stuff! (Update: I won a free breast pump!)

I saw Katie Rogers there!  I can’t believe that two of my friends are pregnant at the same time as me!  It is so much fun!

Dear Child of Mine,

Today we had an ultrasound at Dr. Turnquest’s office in St. Mary’s hospital.  We got to see your tiny body.  They determined that I am six weeks, six days pregnant.  That makes my due date December 12, 2013.  They even used the 3-D system to look at you!  They gave us a whole bunch of pictures and information about how you will be growing over the next few weeks.  We got to hear your heartbeat and it was 141 bpm!  It was SO amazing!  It brought tears to my eyes!  Daddy had such a big smile on his face the whole time.

We went out to eat with Grandma Allen & Mimi at O’Charley’s and they got to see all of your pictures!  They both cried, of course!

After lunch, we went to a doctor’s appointment at Dr. Reid’s office.  They weighed me, took my blood pressure and drew a bunch of blood samples to make sure that my body is operating at full potential for your growing self.  Dr. Reid put me on medicine to help raise my progesterone levels.

Once we got home, we decided to let the entire world know about our little miracle.  I made a post on Facebook that said, “First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes…”  104 people “liked” my status and 45 people commented to say “Congratulations!”

Aunt Tyler posted an ultrasound picture that said, “My niece or nephew!! Can't wait!! Due 12/12/13.”

Cousin Breanna posted, “Congratulations to my aunt and uncle.. I can't wait to see if its a boy or girl..(:”

Pawpaw Givens posted, “Gonna be a pawpaw, again!”

Dear Sweet Child,

Today we had our ultrasound appointment at Pregnancy Resource Center.  You are still SO small that we couldn’t even see you.  The only thing we could see was the gestational sac where you will grow and thrive for the next 8 months.  The technician measured the sac and estimated that I am four weeks, four days pregnant.  She said that this was only a guess and that it is most likely incorrect.  (Update: It turned out that I was actually five weeks, five days pregnant!)

Even though we couldn’t see you yet, we could see a little vibration and the tech said that this is your heartbeat.  It was such an overwhelming feeling to see your little heartbeat on the ultrasound screen.  Daddy cried a little but I had to hold my breath to see the heartbeat.  It is so cute to see how much Daddy already loves you!

When we left, I told Daddy that I was a little upset that we didn’t get a picture so he went back into the office and asked them for a picture!

Our next appointment is the 24th and we should know more information about you.

Dear Baby,

Today, Mimi gathered her family together at Grandma & PopPop’s house.  We let Grandma Allen tell her brothers & sisters-in-law about her new grandbaby that is on the way!  There was a lot of crying and hugging going on.  Now, all of our family members know about you!

Dear Child of Mine,

Today, we were out to eat with Seth & Danielle Skelton at Logsdons and we ran into Mimi, Aunt Judy & Uncle Bud, & Kay (Mimi’s best friend).  Since we are planning to tell the rest of the family about you tomorrow, I decided to go ahead and tell Aunt Judy, Uncle Bud, & Kay tonight since they won’t be at the gathering tomorrow.  I let Mimi tell them.  They were so excited!

Dear Tiny Peanut,
Today, we invited Daddy’s brothers & sisters over to our house along with Grandma & Grandpa Givens so that we could tell them about you!  Grandma & Grandpa Givens, Uncle Brandon, Aunt Hayley, Cousin Darin, & Cousin Breanna came over to eat.  We had a cookout and when the time was right, Daddy told everyone about you.  Everyone was so happy!  We can’t wait to tell everyone else!

Dear Miracle,

Today, Daddy & I worked all day because it is the day before tax season is over.  It was a very hard day because we were both very tired and frustrated.  We didn't leave until 9 pm.  I was getting all emotional (because you are causing my hormones to go crazy) and we decided that it would be best to leave for a little bit and go over to Grandma & PopPop's house for dinner.  When we got there, we ate and Great-Grandma Pryor (Mimi) showed up to visit with the kids for a little bit.

We couldn't help but tell her our good news!  We let Grandma Allen tell her.  She said, "Mom, I am gonna be a grandma!"  Happy tears were streaming down all of our faces!  We jumped up and hugged each other and squealed a little bit.

We still have more people to tell!  Can't wait to spread the good news!

Dear Sweet Miracle,

Today I had a conversation with your father that I just have to share.  We were on our way to Arby's after work to grab some dinner.  I told him that I was feeling a little nauseous and I didn't think that I was going to get anything.  We went through the drive-thru and received our food.  Of course, your dad ordered onion rings.  The smell immediately made me sick to my stomach.

Me: Ugh...these onion rings are making me sick!
Daddy: Well, shut it!
Me: The bag?
Daddy: The bag and YOUR MOUTH! (laughs)
Me: How rude!
Daddy: Well, you are making me mad.
Me: I am making you mad because your child is growing inside of me which makes me nauseous and the smell of YOUR onion rings is making me sick!?
Daddy: Yep...

Isn't he nice?  Most of the time he is not like that.  He has an interview tomorrow and I think he is just nervous and taking it out on me...

In other news, I called the Pregnancy Resource Center on Tuesday and maybe an appointment for next Tuesday, April 16 to have an ultrasound done!  I couldn't wait until the 24th to see your beautiful self!  Daddy is going with me and then after our appointment, we are planning to have lunch at Great-Grandma Pryor's (Mimi) house and tell her of our good news!

Everyone is excited to see your picture!

Today I spoke with Nicole Gibbs about cloth diapering, nursing, and all things baby!  I am excited to be able to talk with her about these things because I need a little guidance.  No one that I know has ever done cloth diapering.  She has four children and just recently decided to cloth diaper her fourth child.  Now, she wishes she would have done it all along.  Everyone thinks that I am crazy (and they may be right) but I have to try it for myself and see how it goes.  I am so excited!  I did some research on the subject, check this out:

1.) Disposable Diapers: Average baby uses 2788 diapers in their 1st year of life.  There are 106 diapers in a package on average.  Therefore, we would need 27 packages for the first year.
A package of diapers on average costs $19.00.  Therefore, we would spend approximately $513.00 on diapers the first year.
Average potty training time is 37 months (3.5 years).  If we purchased 27 packages of diapers for 3.5 years, we would spend approximately $1539.00.
2.) Cloth Diapers: One diaper costs between $17-25.  We would need approximately 25 – 30 diapers for a total investment of $750.  The diapers are one-size-fits-all, so we would use them the entire time until they potty train!  Plus, cloth diapers have less leaks!

Tomorrow, I am going to a "New/Expectant Moms" sale at the Vanderburgh 4-H Center with Casey. I hope to find lots of great items for you!

Dear Miracle,

Today we went to the second service at River City Church with Papaw & Nana Adcox.  It was a great service about being positive and meditating on the good things in life.  Obviously, Daddy & I have so much to be positive about because of you!

After church, Daddy & I went out to eat with Papaw & Nana Adcox at Cracker Barrel.  Once we ordered our food, we got out a family tree that we had made and added you under our names.  (Daddy has been talking to Papaw Adcox about a family tree for a little while now so this was so appropriate!)

It only took Papaw a few seconds to figure it out and Nana was only a couple seconds behind him.  Nana started crying immediately and hugged Papaw.

They are so excited and said that they want to know as soon as we go to the doctor!  After lunch, they laid hands on us and prayed over your health and thanked God for the wonderful miracle that he has given to us.

What a wonderful day!  Thank you, Lord!

Dear Gift from God,

Today I spent the morning with Danielle Skelton & Casey and Garret Howard going to yard sales.  When we got out of the car to go to the first yard sale at Loge Elementary, I stopped the girls and said that I had to show them something on my phone.  I pulled up the picture I had taken of the positive pregnancy test.

They both started yelling, screaming and hugging me on the sidewalk outside of Loge!  Danielle even cried!  It was so fun and exciting!

Daddy told Seth Skelton later in the day while they were hanging out.  Casey told Zac as soon as she got home!  Zac is so excited that we are pregnant because Zac & Casey are pregnant with their second child (14 weeks)!  Hopefully, you and Baby Howard #2 will be friends since you will be so close in age!  They will find out in two weeks if they are having a boy or a girl!

I can't even imagine what I will be feeling when we find out if you are a boy or a girl!  I am sure that everyone will go crazy buying stuff for you!

Can't wait to see you!

Dear Miracle Baby,

Tonight, Daddy & I told my family.  (By the way, our family grew by 3 in July 2012.  I now have 4 siblings instead of 1!)  Daddy & I planned to go over to Grandma & Grandpa Allen's house to have a family game night and play "Pictionary" with the entire family.  We were so excited and I had the giggles all day long while at work.

We got to their house around 6:15 and unfortunately, Grandpa Allen was sick and stayed in his bedroom the entire night.  After dinner, we played Pictionary and when it was Daddy's turn he drew a picture of a pregnant lady.  Grandma Allen & Aunt TyTy guessed what the drawing was right away.  But they didn't put two and two together.  So Daddy had to write, "Alyssa" at the top of the drawing.  Then they finally got it and both of them started crying!  They was lots of hugs, tears, and yelling!  It was wonderful!  Aunt Makayla (age 5) was excited but probably just because she saw all of us being excited.  Uncle Elijah (10) seemed a little confused but eventually smiled.  Uncle Jake (7) was in the bath when we announced it but when he got out, Grandma Allen told him and I don't think he understood.

Grandma Allen gave Daddy a Willow Tree Angel that is called "New Dad" and she gave me two tiny Dr. Suess books to add to your collection.

Since Grandpa Allen was in his bedroom sick, Grandma Allen went running in there to tell him!  He said that he is so happy and that he loved us so much!  He eventually came out after the kids went to bed so that he could tell Daddy & I congratulations!

We are so happy!

Dear Child of Mine,

Over the weekend I had some emotional breakdowns and cried over the smallest things.  This made me think that maybe I should take a pregnancy test.

I took a test this morning while Daddy was still sleeping and it was POSITIVE!

I was so excited and wanted to scream and shout but I didn't want to wake Daddy.

I made Daddy breakfast and put the positive pregnancy test in a book that I had previously carved out just for this occasion.  I woke Daddy and told him that I had made him breakfast but before he ate breakfast, he should look at this new book that I got for him.

He came into the living room where the book was lying, picked up the book, opened it, and just smiled so big!  He had no idea that I was even thinking that I was pregnant so he was surprised!  I got it on tape to show you some day!

We hugged and laughed and cried!  We are so happy that our little miracle is growing and that we will get to see you soon!

I called my doctor and scheduled an appointment for April 24.  I can't wait to see your tiny little body forming in my womb!

Now we just have to figure out how and when to tell all of our family and friends!

We are so blessed beyond belief with such a wonderful miracle!
